Facet Music - Song of the Phoenix Concert
Have you ever heard of the double-reed Chinese horn, the suona? The concert features a master of the instrument, Wu Zhongxi from China, who will perform one of the Chinese classics: “Song of the Phoenix”, with Calgary Chinese Orchestra.
We also proudly present PEP (Piano and Erhu Project) from Vancouver. Pianist Cory Hamm and Erhuist Nicole Ge Li make up the virtuosic duo which has been a cross-cultural phenomenon in western Canada.
The show also features FOONYAP, an artist described by CBC Music as “a lush, weird and intoxicating blend of electro-opera meets experimental pop”.
You will also be treated to music by dynamic jazz trombonist Carsten Rubeling. His piece, “Bighorn Sounding”, explores the dual nature of shadow and light.
The concert will also be the world premiere of a brand-new work created by one of Calgary’s most innovative choreographers, Barbara England, which will be performed by 27 community dancers.
